At CIBION we approach questions of the biological sciences from synthetic chemistry and advanced analytical tools. The nanometric scale is the natural landscape for the interaction between organisms and synthetic materials.

´Bionanosciences´ involve interdisciplinary work and should be understood in a broad sense: bio ´plus´ nano.

The name also honors the memory of Dr. Elizabeth Jares-Erijman, an exceptional scientist who made pioneering bionanoscience research in Argentina.  Many founding members of CIBION have worked in close collaboration with Dr. Jares-Erijman. Eli, as we all knew her, enthusiastically supported the CIBION project from its initiation, with suggestions and interchange of scientific and strategic concepts. Her ideas and reflections still motivate us today. For this reason we decided, together with CONICET, to name our institute in her honor.
